Reject the Proposed Skipjack Wind Project Cable Landing Proposal

Reject the Proposed Skipjack Wind Project Cable Landing Proposal

Requesting a better landing site for the Skipjack offshore wind project's power cable.

The Delaware Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation has serious concerns with the proposed offshore wind cable landing project in Fenwick Island State Park. The “Skipjack” project, owned by Orsted, has proposed to build major energy infrastructure in the park, which is located on a narrow barrier island a few feet above sea level. Because of Surfrider's general stance that communities should be retreating from our shorelines whenever possible because of sea level rise and increased coastal storms, this proposal appears seriously flawed.

The Chapter does not have an opinion on the offshore portion of the wind project at this time, but Surfrider strives to support offshore wind projects, if they are responsibly developed, in order to avoid the negative effects from climate change.

The Chapter sent a comment letter about their concerns to DNREC and to local media (link to LTE here). They also attended a public hearing about the project and had a meeting with Orsted and DNREC representatives.
