Public Beaches, Not Private Greens

Public Beaches, Not Private Greens

Block the development of a golf course within Westport Light State Park

Westport Light State Park, along with the Westport Jetty, stands as one of Washington State Parks' premier coastal recreation hot spots. Hundreds of thousands of people visit this small stretch of coast to surf, kiteboard, fish, dig clams, watch wildlife,  rockhound, and relax. The beaches and jetty area are particularly popular with surfers from across the Pacific Northwest, providing consistent, high-quality waves that are both accessible and challenging for all skill levels.

The recently proposed Westport Golf Links project could change that. The WGL project would create a Scottish links-style golf course on over 500 acres of public land, primarily situated across the dune landscape near the ocean. While proponents of the project claim significant economic benefits with minimal impacts to the environment, we are concerned that the golf course will negatively affect public access, water availability, coastal water quality, and damage coastal wetland habitat.
