New Surfing Beach in NYC

The New York City Chapter convinced the NY City Parks Department to open an additional surfing-only beach in Rockaway at 67th Street. This is the second access victory for the chapter in Rockaway after opening Beach 90th Street as the first ever legal surfing beach in the Rockaways. Officials from the Parks Department, City Government, and State Government were all on hand with chapter volunteers for a press conference to mark the occassion. 

Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe agreed to a surfing lesson afterwards. He stripped his shirt - and the guy has literally NEVER been on a surfboard before - but the chapter volunteers gave him good instructions and got him on a few rideable waves!
