Create a Sea Level Rise Plan for NYC
To pass NYC Council legislation Int. 1620-2019, creating a comprehensive five borough plan to protect the entire NYC shoreline from climate change, sea level rise and sunny day flooding.
Surfrider is very concerned about the many negative impacts from climate change, including rising sea levels and storm surges from more powerful and frequent coastal storms. For these reasons, Surfrider advocates for managed retreat from our coastlines as the most effective way to remove infrastructure and people out of harm's way.
Where retreat is not possible, we advocate for smart planning to address impacts from climate change and create more resilient communities. Therefore, we support the efforts of the NYC Council to pass Intro. 1620-2019, which mandates a comprehensive five borough resiliency plan to protect the entire NYC shoreline from climate change, sea level rise and sunny day flooding.
The NYC Chapter submitted comments to the NY City Council about this legislation in December, 2019.
