Banned the Intentional Release of Balloons in Montgomery County, MD

The DC and Ocean City Chapters of the Surfrider Foundation worked to ban the intentional release of balloons in Montgomery County, MD. Even though the state of MD is considering such a ban, banning them in this county adds support to the statewide effort.  

Early in 2020, Montgomery County Councilmember Tom Hucker reached out to Surfrider Foundation about his concern on intentional balloon releases. Both the Washington DC and the Ocean City, MD Chapter supported the idea of introducing this legislation and submitted testimony. We missed the press conference for the introduction due to our 2020 Hill Day. Both Chapters again submitted testimony for the 9/29/20 vote, and pushed an action alert which sent messages to county officials.
