VA Beach: The Virginia Beach Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation recently started a monthly photo contest. Participants upload their photos, then anyone interested votes online for the photos, and the winner gets a prize. The Chapter gets great photos to use in the ever-important social media feeds. NYC: The New York City Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation used a local parade to increase attention to one of its campaigns. The annual Mermaid Parade in Coney Island draws thousands of viewers. The Chapter signed up for an official spot in the parade and was ready with signs and a bag monster costume to support their campaign against single use plastics. And they won a costume award!

ELI: The Eastern Long Island Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation held their annual movie night and did everything right. They had an eye-catching flyer made by a local artist and promoted heavily. They made it clear what they would do with the money raised—it would be put towards water quality testing. They charged at the door and incorporated a membership into the entrance fee. They didn’t just show a movie—they had a silent auction, a raffle, and other exhibits. Great job executing a proven membership, revenue, and good times generator!
